So you’re finally ready to start your own blogging business? That is awesome; a wise decision indeed!
Now I know you’re excited to begin learning all about this business and how to do it properly but first, I’d like to share with you some prerequisites I think should be the foundation of your business going forward.
The journey ahead of you is a very challenging and sometimes tedious one but let me tell you; oh so fun!
You’re going to be building your very own business from the ground up!! How crazy is that!?
Blogging (as a career) can be very financially rewarding as well, way beyond what you think would be realistic but it all starts with having the right attitude and treating it as it is:
A real, breathing, living business that connects with REAL people
Scary I know, but let’s get you started:
The Prerequisite Mindset For Running A Long Term Blog Business
Having The Right Attitude
So we’re discussing the prerequisites for running a long-term blog business, right? Well, let’s dissect that statement a bit:
“Long Term”: Something that will last for years, hopefully generations.
“Blogging Business”: While blogging is fun and the start up costs are close to nothing, it’s still a business!
To build a business that will last is a tough job. In all my articles on this blog, I stress that building a blog business should not be taken lightly!
I risk sounding redundant most of the times I type that but I really have to drive the point that this is not easy!
I’m not trying to put you off blogging obviously, what I’m trying to say is this;
Don’t go into the blogging / online business without taking the necessary steps that you would take when starting an offline business. The challenges ahead are real.
It’s A Step By Step Process
You can not go from 0 traffic and 0 sales to 1,000 daily traffic and $200 payouts in a week. It doesn’t work like that.
Even though everybody would like to achieve instant success, if we were to get instant gratification with our blogging business (or anything in life worth having) we’d run it into the ground faster than it was built.
Just look at lottery winners. Statistics show that a large percentage of lottery winners will go broke in a few years time meanwhile the folks that build their business and fortune from the ground up, step by step, have a higher chance of retaining and/or increasing their fortunes.
Blogging is kind of like this as well. Don’t expect success in an instant because you simply won’t get it and even if you do get it, chances are it won’t last.
Failures & Mistakes
I’ve made a ton of mistakes in the short few months (and years before) I’ve been a full-time blogger.
Welcome and accept all your failures and mistakes. They are going to be one of the factors that will make you a great blogger in time.
They’re going to build and strengthen your knowledge about the business, your niche and your customers thus increasing your chances of sustaining your business for the long term.
My motto is this; accept (short term) failure and keep moving, keep pushing, keep working.
Having a strong, stubborn attitude and the priceless lessons from your failures will put you in the best position to succeed, that’s a guarantee!
Being In The Best Possible Situation To Win
When I first started out, I just went for it. Winging it as I was going along, trying to make sense of all the SEO tactics without knowing what the letters “S-E-O” really stood for.
Needless to say, I got basically nowhere worth being with that approach.
Sure they were failures that I learned from but it could’ve been avoided and I’d like to spare you from doing the same thing I did for 6 months and that’s basically just wasting money and time.
For you to have a long term blog business, you need to have a solid foundation to build on. If the foundation is shaky and unstable, everything you’re going to build is going to come crashing down sooner or later.
So how do you put yourself in the right position to win?
Well; there’s many answers to that one but I’d like to share my version with you.
For me, the moment I realised what “all this” is about and how to do it the right way was when I join Wealthy Affiliate as a free starter member.
For those that don’t know, Wealthy Affiliate is an online community that teaches folks how to run their own online business. (For more information; see my review here).
Having the right education and a connection with other online entrepreneurs was the last piece of the puzzle that I needed to build my business.
Sure I still have failures and disappointments even though I now have the right tools but as we said; failures are a part of business, and I welcome the long-term lessons they bring with them.
I hope this post didn’t put you off getting started online, the reason I posted it was to actually inspire you in a way that makes you take action but action that will lead you to success with the right tools and mindset necessary to do well.
I hope this post enlightens you and puts you on the right track to succeed with your blogging plans!
