20 Online Editing Jobs
The great thing about editing and proofreading is that you can do it anywhere in the world, as long as you have a laptop and an internet connection.
What do Editors and Proofreaders Earn?
Editors and Proofreaders can earn anything from $10 to $50 an hour, average at around $25 – $35 an hour.
Glassdoor reports the average base pay as being $36,000 a year. You’ll make more if you specialize in Proofreading Court Transcripts or Books.

Enago has over 2000 Editors with Ph.D. or Masters Degrees from top Universities such as Harvard, Oxford, and MIT. They have assisted over 2 million ESL (English as a second language) Authors to get their books published.
All of their Editors are freelancers, working remotely.

Specializes in editing scientific research papers. Their team of 300 remote, freelance editors around the globe has edited over 180,000 manuscripts.
3. Scribe Writing
Book in a Box recently rebranded as Scribe Writing. They help authors write, publish and market their books. Their services include book coaching, publishing, editing, proofreading and ghostwriting.
Scribe hires freelancers who enjoy ghost-writing or co-writing.

Kirkus Media hires book reviewers who review English or Spanish books. They also offer ad hoc editing and proofreading work to freelancers.
Reviews must be 350 words long and written within 2 weeks after the book is assigned. They reportedly pay $25 per review. To become a reviewer, you need to submit a resume and writing sample.

Professional proofreading and editing service for academics and professionals, specializing in ESL speakers and students.
All editors work on a freelance basis, remotely on a flexible schedule.
6. Scribbr

Edit Fast offers a free webpage to Editors where they can advertise their services. Edit Fast takes 40% of the total project price once the project is completed.
To apply editors must submit their resume online, complete editing tests and sign a non-disclosure agreement and then wait for their application to be reviewed and activated.
They can only receive new project notifications once their web page is activated.

Their editors work as independent contractors and can expect to earn around $500 to $3,000 a month.

They offer flexible hours to editors and proofreaders who can work from anywhere.
Editors have to pass a 20-minute screening test before any work is assigned. However, they offer competitive rates of $19 to $46 per hour. The faster your turnaround time, the more you earn.

All editors must be pedantic about grammar.
Speed and efficiency are paramount. Their editors need to be able to proofread a 3000-word document within 24 hours.
