I’ve started getting interested in making money online about 7 years ago and although it was fairly easy to back then, it sure is much, much easier now.
Please note that when I say “easy”, I don’t mean that you only have to buy into one of these “magical systems” you see advertised and you’re good to go.
What I mean is that the tools, training material, and resources you need to make it happen have all gone up in quality and down in price!
With that said, today I want to share with you some “at home” online business ideas that you can start easily from the comfort of your home, and yes;
You can even get started today if you wish.
Now to keep this guide legit, I will only be talking about the methods that I have used to make my online income, but I will also include a list of different business ideas you can check for yourself along with a guide on how to get started for each one.

01: Freelance Work
There isn’t a better way to start a home business than in the world of freelance work online.
Sites like Fiverr and People Per Hour have made this an incredibly accessible to anyone to get started.
- It’s free to start.
- You can work your own hours and
- You can charge as much as you want (read the fine print below).
How’s that for a home business opportunity?
My first income came from doing freelance work.
I made my first $5 on Fiverr and in a few months, I was earning $3,000+ per month on there with my then-girlfriend and not only did we make a nice income; it also afforded me to get the education I needed for my next venture (which we’ll talk about next).
You can offer anything online as a freelance marketer so do not think for a second that you have “nothing to offer”.
There are a lot of “crazy” people earning crazy money using this method and I am sure there is something out there that you can do very well for others.
Just browse the Fiverr marketplace alone and you will see that people can come up with some weird ways to make money from home.
Some of the most popular jobs you can offer are:
- Graphic design work.
- Guest Writing/blogging
- Social media management.
- Virtual assistant
- Video testimonials
- Video production
- and a whole lot more.
I’ve built my freelance business on Fiverr and PPH by doing these 6 things so I know they definitely work:
- French to English translation (and vice versa)
- Video testimonials and advertisements
- Photoshoots
- Article Writing
- Keyword Research for SEO clients
- Social media management and consulting
All these work and they can make you a nice chunk of change every month “with ease” – I can guarantee it!
You just have to find what you enjoy doing and do that.
2 Tips For Doing Freelance Jobs Online
Do not expect fast results:
Although it’s easy to get started and easy to get your first gig, it will take the time to build up a portfolio of clients.
But if you provide great work, trust me in a few weeks/months time you’re going to have a nearly full-time job doing this!
Charge low (at first):
How would you like to earn $5 an hour writing articles?
It doesn’t sound like fun I know but you do need to start small at first just to get some clients in and some great reviews.
After a while, you can start charging more and more, especially if you have loyal customers that over-book you.
Never be afraid of increasing prices, but remember to start small.
Nobody wants to hire an inexperienced ghostwriter for $100 a piece, but a seasoned writer that has written 1000s of articles and clearly has quality work; can fetch even up to $200 per article.
My keyword research gig on People Per Hour started selling at $10 a piece but now I’ve put the price up to $30.
Does this mean I am selfish and overcharging my customers?
No; that just means that I have upped my work value (yes I provide a better service) and I have a loyal customer base that loves to work with me.
Also, I have now moved on to affiliate marketing so I do not have much time to work as a freelancer anymore, which means that I do not depend on my freelance income anymore.

02: Affiliate Marketing
This site you are on right now is my main bread and butter, and this article you are reading right now is what makes me money every single day.
Yep, you read that right.
That is the power that comes with having a blog and using it to make money with the ‘affiliate marketing” model.
Now there are many ways you can monetize your blog but my “holy grail” is affiliate marketing and if there is 1 “at-home” online business that I would urge you to figure out, is this one.
But why is affiliate marketing so great?
Affiliate marketing for me is the best way you make an income online.
If you do not know what that means, I have a great guide for you here, but let me give you a quick explanation:
Affiliate marketing is the model where you sell someone’s product for a commission.
A perfect example of that would be the Amazon Associates program – yes, Amazon will pay you for sending them, customers.
Now if the biggest company in the world see the value of affiliate marketing, then I am sure there’s something to it.
And remember affiliate marketing = passive income – which is the “dream” lifestyle for just about every aspiring dot-com entrepreneur!
Unlike freelance work, which would require you to actually sit and down and do some work, with affiliate marketing you can make money in your sleep (i.e if you spend enough time building it up to that point)
I know that sounds like a buzzword to sell you something but it’s true. That’s how affiliate marketing works.
This website and my 4 other mini-niche websites I own right now are constantly receiving readers to them where I have affiliate links pointing to products that I promote.
Now whether I am at my desk, asleep or on a flight going somewhere, my websites are “online”, people are reading my content and people are buying these products that I am promoting.
Is it that easy? No, it’s not.
It’s a very not-at-all-easy job but I assure you it’s worth it:
- You get to make passive income,
- You are not tied down to any set hours,
- You can work from anywhere you want,
- There are millions and millions of product you can promote and
- and much more.

Is affiliate marketing a scam?
Some people think that anything that has to do with “passive income online” is a scam. Which, unfortunately, is true in some cases yes.
There are a lot of products, systems, and websites that promise you easy riches but deliver nothing and somebody who is not experienced in this can be led to believe that if they send somebody their $7 in exchange for an ebook, they will wake up rich tomorrow.
That is not the case though and to be honest, I am frustrated with how many readers come to me telling they have tried system XYZ and got nothing after spending a fortune with them.
Let me tell you right now; affiliate marketing is NOT a scam.
Money hungry affiliates made it a scam (ironically) but it’s not this complete “illegal” and “scammy” way they make it out to be either.
How To Get Started With Affiliate Marketing
Now obviously affiliate marketing is something you need to learn how to do.
It’s just a vast, vast topic that I can’t even begin to scratch the surface in one blog post.
That is why I want to introduce you to a little-known, yet widely used training course; Wealthy Affiliate.
This is the same training course I have used some 4 years ago to learn this business.

Blogging
A blog is another “at home” business idea that is not fully understood by people.
Now I do blogging and I monetize my blogs (websites) with the help of affiliate marketing, but that is not the only way you can monetize a blog.
Once you have built a solid readership with many hungry readers looking for information on your site, there are many, many ways that you can “monetize a blog”.
Here are the most popular 6:
- Google Adsense (displays banner ads on your site and you make money when readers click on it).
- Affiliate marketing (already talked about this).
- Sponsored posts (get paid by companies to feature and review their products).
- Sell your own product (this is also a great way to monetise but it will require some training to set it up).
- Building a list (this will be your own customer base that you can interact with via email)
- Selling Amazon products (which is basically affiliate marketing but being able to sell ANYTHING on Amazon).

I’ve just shared with you the 3 favourite methods that I use to make money from my home using the power of the internet.
But the internet being the giant it is today, obviously; there are many, many more ways you can make an income from home.
Here are some of the ways I know other top bloggers and online entrepreneurs are using to make their business dreams come true:
- Any type of consulting, coaching or one-on-one mentorship offered online.
- Selling your own products online through an e-commerce platform.
- Social media management (perfect for people who are highly skilled on a particular SM channel)
- Web design.
- Dropshipping!
