No – you don’t.
This is one of the biggest roadblocks for many who think they need to be some world-renowned expert to have the permission to start a website (or create a product) about a specific topic.
The truth is, you only need to know more than the average person – or at least;
You need to have the desire to know more and thus you can share what you’re learning with your readers.
I’m the perfect example of this.
I am not an expert in SEO.
I’ve said this many times.
I doubt anyone is an “expert” in SEO – unless they work within Google’s walls.
However, I do know more than the average person about how to build SEO-friendly websites (and I have the results to prove it) so I can teach others what I know.
Also, keep in mind that business owners are rarely the “expert” in their field.
Do you think Bezos was an “expert” in ecommerce when he started Amazon?
He probably had some skills and knowledge, but I’m willing to bet there were many other better-skilled “experts” that could’ve done what he did – but they didn’t.
(& they probably all work for him now)
Funny how that works right?
I bring this up because I do get the occasional email from a reader telling me they do not feel qualified enough to teach.
My answer is usually you’re probably taking for granted that what you already know.
What you know may already be “expert-level” for some people.
So yes – you can start a business, even if you are not an expert.
As long as you have an interest in the topic, and you’re willing to work at it – you’ve got more than enough to justify starting a website or creating a product that can help others.
The upcoming Teachable LIVE event will be addressing this head-on.
They have a session dedicated to overcoming this “imposter syndrome feeling” many struggles with.
If that’s the one thing that’s holding you back from getting started, then you should make sure you register so you don’t miss this session.
You can sign up for the event here >>
I’ll leave you to it.
PS: I’m making an effort to get as many people to the Teachable Live event not only because I’m a current Teachable creator and affiliate, but I also believe this upcoming live event will be an eye-opening experience to anyone looking to start and grow an online business.
It’s 100% free – and you get to hear from all the “superstar content creators” on how they do it with some making upwards of $100,000+ a month simply selling what they know.
