In the past, blog commenting has gotten a bad rap and that was because of the rise of spammy comments. At the same time, site owners who wanted to build links quickly used this as a link building scheme without providing any real value for readers.

Meaning, these blogs publish blog content on a regular basis. It’s very useless to leave comments on a blog post that has been published a year ago.
Active blogs are places where you can comment on several times a week, thus increasing your visibility. Usually, active blogs happen to be the very blogs that people often visit because they’re popular and influential.
As always, a good place to start looking for blogs in your niche is Google. All you need to do is to type into Google’s search box the terms “your niche” + “blogs.” For example.
For example, if you run a health blog, type in “health blogs.” You should be able to get a list of the top performing sites in your niche.
Another way to discover relevant blogs is through social media. On Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, you can find these blogs using hashtags.
c. Massive engagement
Does your prospective blog receive a ton of likes, shares, and comments for its posts? If yes, then consider this a good place to comment on.
Again, constant human interaction on a blog is a great sign because it opens doors for opportunities.
2. Add unique value
In Rand Fishkin’s comment marketing guide, he mentions that a great comment is one that “provides unique value.” What does he mean by unique value?
When you write a comment that offers real value, you’re mentioning something that has never been mentioned in the blog post. Do not repeat what has been said. Avoid sharing common knowledge or else your comment will not stand out.
For the sake of being able to add unique value, even if you feel that you have nothing new to share, a good tip would be to do a quick research on the topic at hand.
Surely, you can pull a piece of information and share it in your comment.
3. Format your comment properly
Similar to blog posts, comments that look like blocks of text turn off readers. If you’re going to write a comment that’s longer than the usual comments you find on the web, follow proper formatting.
Use subheads, bullet points, and numbered lists when enumerating tips or strategies. Write short but punchy paragraphs, limiting each paragraph to 2 to 3 sentences.

Since we already talked about blog commenting to amplify your brand’s reach, another strategy to take this to greater heights is to share what you did on Twitter.
Let’s say you left a valuable, well-written comment on a popular blog like ProBlogger. After you do so, tweet that you’ve left a comment on the blog.
For example, you can tweet “Hey guys, check out my comment on @problogger about [blog topic].
Not only does this invite your Twitter followers to visit the blog you commented on, this will also get the site owner to notice you. Again, this can be the start of a relationship with the owner.
5. Stick to a consistent commenting schedule
Blog commenting isn’t a “set and forget” thing, it requires daily work if you want to get results. It doesn’t matter whether people call you the king or queen of commenting!
Consistency allows you to gain site owners’ and readers’ trust and is a surefire way to grab everyone’s attention.
Some bloggers who realize the potential of commenting want to make it a daily task but have a difficult time incorporating it into their schedules.
I suggest that each day, you dedicate 10-15 minutes for commenting and set a timer for it. Your time for commenting depends, of course, on the number of comments you receive on and outside of your blog.
6. Use your full name
Try to place yourself in the shoes of a site owner whose blog post you’re going to comment on. How would you feel about getting a comment from someone who only uses his or her first name?
Always use your full name when commenting on any site. Your comment will appear more professional and human. It’s also one way for you to properly introduce yourself to everyone who reads your comments.
