This has to be one of the biggest question every blogger has. Whether you’re getting 10 visitors, 100 visitors or even 10,000 visitors a day, you should always be on the lookout for ways to increase traffic on your blog.
Keep in mind that traffic = $
If you want to make money with your blog, you need to have a steady and (hopefully) growing stream of quality traffic. Following, are some ways you can get (or increase) traffic on your blog.
These are the “proven” ways bloggers are using today to broaden their reach:
How To Increase Traffic On Your Blog: 6 Methods For Fast Results
Get Social Media Savvy
I’m in love with social. I honestly think that in some cases, social is better than SEO.
The reason I like social so much is that when you’re first starting out, it is the quickest / easiest way to get your first readers.
Unlike search traffic (which we’re discussing next), you can start driving traffic from day one. On the other hand, search traffic takes time to build as getting indexed and ranked in the SERPS will take you weeks, months even.
This is what you can do to start harnessing the power of social media:
- Search and answer tweets.
- Like, comment and share on Facebook .
- Create stunning images and share them on Pinterest. (See how I do it)
- Also, don’t forget about Google+. It’s a gold mine!
Yes, starting now, these methods can help you get more traffic but remember that to build a sizeable following and trust with your audience, you need some time.
Having said that, I have to stress that you do not need thousands of followers, you just need the right followers!
[Tweet “When it comes to #blogging, It’s not about width, it’s about depth!”]You’re better off having 100 followers that interact with you rather than 10,000 that don’t care at all!
For the part-time / hobby blogger, applying all the methods I’m going to be going through here may be too time consuming but, if you only have time to focus on a few of these strategies, then focus on social media and SEO!
Learn SEO – Search Engine Optimisation
This is what many call “the best type of traffic” you can get!
For those that don’t know: Search traffic is when people land on your website from search engines (most likely Google).
As I said earlier, it depends on the niche and how you use both that determine the best one out of SEO & social media but it’s good to mention that search traffic is also one of the most valuable traffic sources you can get.
That’s because when people want to actually take any sort of action, they typically search for it on search engines rather than on social media.
If you can get ranked under keywords (related to your niche) with a high traffic count, then you’re on your way to a lucrative online blogging business; guaranteed! And remember, there is no limit as to how much traffic you can get. The more content you produce, the more chance you have of getting ranked.
The downside of search traffic is that it is slow to generate. To get indexed and ranked enough so that you can reach a mass audience, it takes time. Any solid SEO plan has to be for the following 6-12 months.
PRO TIP: Avoid the so called “SEO experts”, they just don’t exist. The algorithms change daily and a random update can rocket or tank your efforts.
The best “strategy” I’ve come across so far is to simply write great, original content. If you can do that, then I’m sure eventually your efforts will pay off…… someday.
Also it might be a good time to start learning about keyword research if you want to take SEO seriously!
Get Active In Your Niche (Know Your Audience)
It’s always important to be active in your own niche. If you make yourself visible on other blogs discussing related things, people will notice that and they’re likely to click through to your website.
You can get involved by simply leaving comments on your favourite blogs, join Facebook pages and groups and also join Google+ communities.
These are tools you can use to get people to notice you.
If you’re new to blogging, most probably your first few visitors are going to be other bloggers that are checking out what you have to say! The best thing to do at this stage is to network with other bloggers and build a relationship with them.
This will hopefully lead to them sharing your content with their followers, linking to you and maybe even guest blog on each other’s blog for increased reach.
Here’s how to become a guest blogging superstar!
By the way, I don’t believe guest blogging is dead. It’s dead for those that are just looking to get a backlink. If you’re doing it simply for the fun of it to network, then you don’t have to worry. Sites like ProBlogger and The Huffington Post still allows guest bloggers on there.

Start An Email List (It’s Free Too)
Every business is built on repeat customers, and having a list you can contact again and again is pure gold. Most bloggers agree that their list is the primary source of traffic and income for their blog.
Even if readers like your content, once they leave without subscribing or at least follow you on your SM accounts, they are probably gone forever.
Email allows you to send them updates whenever you post something new and since they gave you “permission” to send them emails, they’re most likely very interested in what you have to say.
Although this is a great way to increase traffic on your blog, there is more to email marketing than simply sending out links.
- It helps establish you as an authority.
- You’re immune to any SEO algorithm updates (You own your traffic).
- With the utmost care, you can turn a subscriber into a loyal customer.
Email is working great for me! I’m no email marketing expert, but the results I’ve been producing so far have been amazing.
To get started with this, I suggest you checkout MailChimp, which is free for your first 500 subscribers.
Offline Marketing ?
This is something I do not do yet, but I might in the future.
Think of stuff like t-shirts, stickers, baseball caps, pin badges, etc… and how you can use them to promote your blog. I can see this working perfectly if you have a blog that is about a service you provide locally.
Check these 5 simple guerilla-marketing techniques!
Please Be Patient, This Is Not A Sprint!
All these methods have been proven to work, but only if you apply yourself to them.
You might post a link or send out an email to your 5 subscribers and they’ll check what you have to say but to get any sort of significant traffic, it takes time.
Just know all the work you put into increasing traffic will be accumulative. Don’t judge your efforts by one link or one blog post.

Hi Chris,
This is a great post from you. I have recently started a blog in the niche of “making money blogs”. I really like all the stuff that are to blogging.
I agree with you that developing an authority and driving more traffic to your blog takes time.It is a marathon and not a sprint.
I feel that more good quality and original content you have on your blog, the better are its chances of becoming an authority.
As I have mentioned that I have started a blog recently, I’m working pretty hard on having good quality content on my blog.
However, this guest post thing is something that I have yet to understand. I have this doubt about guest blogging that how can I contact them and even if I do, will I get a reply?
Hey Tarun. Just find some blogs you want to guest post at and simply send them an email. Some will say yes, most will say no but that shouldn’t stop you. It’s a laws of numbers (kind of).
Guest blogging will do great for your traffic and for your SEO so I suggest that if you want to do this, do not give up and just keep emailing blogs and sites and network with them.
Hoep this helps.
Hi Chris, you amaze me. You have an amazing blog. I love reading it after work. I really learn a lot from you. Best of luck and keep up the good work 🙂
